Between five and six thousand years ago, two things happened which created the modern world and gave rise to every invention and development in human civilisation seen since that time. About 5800 years ago, a human gene emerged which is known for short as ASPM, which stands for abnormal spindle-like microcephaly-associated. It is a gene connected with brain size and architecture, and very likely with intellectual ability too. It is today most frequently found in Europeans, those from India, the Middle East and North Africa. It is least found in East Asians, the natives of North and South America and also people from sub-Saharan Africa.
