The German who invented concentration camps
Since the 1930s, it has been widely claimed that the British set up the first concentration camps during the Boer War at the beginning of the twentieth century. This is quite false.
It is the one thing which everybody knows about concentration camps, that it was the British, rather than the Germans, who first established and operated a network of such places during the Boer War. This ‘fact’ was devised in Nazi Germany and in recent years has come to be widely accepted as true.
