Who are the ‘purebloods’?
Some of those who refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19 have framed their actions in a mystical sense, invoking an ancient concept of keeping blood pure
In the last three or four years, an expression has become commonly seen in certain corners of the internet. This is ‘pureblood’, used as a single noun. In other words, people describe themselves as being purebloods. The word is of course taken originally from the Harry Potter books, where the purebloods are wizards whose ancestry is uncontaminated by those ordinary folk who are not wizards; the so-called mudbloods. Of course, the idea of people whose blood is ‘pure’ goes back a lot further than Harry Potter.
