"The Americans have never had a very good reputation where bombing from the air is concerned. They seem to have an uncanny knack for killing their own troops as readily as those of the opposing side."

You should have been in Vietnam.

After the French surrender, their industry worked for Germany. The French fleet could have joined the British as Free French. Some did. Other occupied countries navies did. Technically France was a country friendly and supportive of Germany, except the French resistance.

After the war the US left engineers in France for a couple years rebuilding their railroads and bridges. France got $2 billion, 700 million dollars from the Marshall Plan. And other funds, military equipment, ships, and more. What the US got for the money, equipment, and blood was an unfriendly ally. And not always that good. Germany, our defeated enemy got over a billion.

And Europe wonders why the US is tired of spending money in Europe. It's like one big welfare recipient. It never ends.

As awful as it sounds, what other means were available to remove the Germans from France with the capabilities we had at that time?
